Metro’s Graduate Program

Metro’s Graduate Program is a two-year program, currently open to engineers. The program rotates graduates through key areas of the business offering them experience across different teams, projects and challenges.

Towards the end of the two-years, graduates work with the Graduate Program Lead and Talent Acquisition teams to apply for roles across the business according to their interests and developed skills.

Be involved in operating a railway

As a new engineer, there are generally minimal opportunities to be involved in operating a railway. At Metro, we offer this experience. Our engineering graduate program provides work experience in critical divisions contributing to safe, efficient, and on-time passenger services.

We value our graduates by offering permanent positions, a competitive salary and additional perks like a free Myki Card. At the end of the program, many of our graduates have already met their future leaders and been offered a position, or will be assisted to seek a position.

Our Graduates love:

  • being exposed to opportunities within the organisation;
  • the opportunity to choose where they want to take their engineering career.

“The MTM Graduate Program gave me the opportunity to grow not only upward but sideways. MTM gave me the opportunity to not only advance the skills I had already acquired in construction, but also the chance to expand my knowledge of the train network, even in sectors I didn’t even know existed.”
Caitlin Moloney, Graduate Engineer (1st Year).

How to apply

Requirements

Metro has two intakes per year in January and July.

Graduates need to be in their last semester of study or have graduated within the previous three years. As the rail network covers the entirety of Melbourne, our graduates will be required to work in other locations based across the Metropolitan Rail Network and must be willing to travel.

Graduates must also match the required disciplines, have unrestricted working rights and be able to work on a full-time basis.
