Our commitment to construction, testing and operation of the Metro Tunnel is driven by our desire to leave a positive legacy for future generations. We’re working collaboratively across our business and with our project delivery partners to ensure Melbournians can access a world-class railway.
Metro Tunnel Benefits
• Twin 9-kilometre tunnels will carry bigger trains and more people through the heart of the city.
• New High Capacity Signalling technology will allow us to run more trains closer together safely – easing pressure on the City Loop, creating more services and reducing delays.
• Platform Screen Doors will improve passenger safety and boarding times, help manage station temperatures, and improve tunnel ventilation.
• Our five new world class underground stations will connect passengers to residential, retail and commercial areas, major university and hospital precincts, Melbourne landmarks, and the City Loop.
A significant testing and commissioning program will ensure every piece of new technology is safe and working together with new bigger, better trains, alongside the wider network’s existing signalling system.
