Public transport works this summer

Work on major transport infrastructure projects may impact the way you travel around Melbourne and across the state.

Public transport

As part of Victoria’s Big Build, the Metro Tunnel will open this summer. From 30 November 2025, passengers will be able to use the Metro Tunnel and visit all five new undergrounds stations. To celebrate, public transport will be free on weekends during December 2025 and January 2026.

Major disruptions

Be sure to plan ahead and allow more time for travel during major works this summer, especially if travelling over the school holiday period.
To avoid delays:
• plan your journey before you travel using the journey planner
• allow extra travel time
• consider alternatives if you can and travel outside of peak times where possible.
