A new contract: putting passengers first

On Tuesday 12 September, the Victorian Government awarded Metro a new contract to operate the metropolitan rail network for another seven years.

Since taking over in November 2009, we have made significant improvements. But while past successes are important, it’s the future that counts. This is a new era – a time where the State Government has committed to unprecedented levels of investment in public transport. Over the next 10 years, there is a massive transformation taking place across Melbourne’s rail infrastructure – huge landmark works including the removal of more than 50 level crossings, the introduction of the Metro Tunnel, the Cranbourne-Pakenham Line Upgrade, the line extension to Mernda, the new High Capacity Trains and the High Capacity Signalling.

These projects will completely reshape our metropolitan rail system and bring about a real transformation in your rail experience. It is our job to keep the network moving while this huge program of works is delivered efficiently and safely. We are proudly working with our partners at Public Transport Victoria, Level Crossing Removal Authority, Melbourne Metro Rail Authority, Transport for Victoria and the other public transport operators to achieve this.

You, our passengers, expect more and you will get it. We will deliver a service that keeps up with what you want and what Victoria needs.

Our pledge is to never stop improving, just like this fantastic city of ours. Melbourne, we thank you for this privilege.
