Metro appoints new Chief Operating Officer

Aline Frantzen has been appointed to Chief Operating Officer at Metro Trains Melbourne and will start in the role in April 2023.

Aline is an impressive transport leader, holding various global executive roles over the past 10 years.  She brings with her a wealth of knowledge in operational and customer experience including timetabling and day-of service running, while also having a strong background in asset management, long-term strategic network planning and integrating new projects (including rolling stock) into operation.

From 2000 until 2017, Aline worked at Yarra Trams and held a diverse range of positions including business improvement, franchise contract bidding, planning and various Operations leadership roles. In 2013, she became the first-ever female Director of Lines where she was responsible for 1,300 drivers and operations across the network. This role was expanded in 2016 to Executive Director Service Delivery where she became responsible for a team of 2,100 that also included network strategy and planning, rolling stock maintenance, marketing and customer experience.

In May 2017, Keolis moved Aline to the United Kingdom where she took on the role of Managing Director of KeolisAmey Metrolink Contract, the Light Rail network in Manchester where she led the team that managed 100+ kilometres of track, 120 trams, 7 lines and carried over 43 million passengers per annum.

In October 2019, she moved to KeolisTransit America, as the CEO of US Bus Operations, leading a portfolio of bus contracts with a total staff of 2,500 employees and 1,400 vehicles across the United States.

Aline is a passionate, committed and people-focussed engaging leader. She brings to the COO role at Metro Trains Melbourne global leadership experience in operational performance, continuous improvement, change management and stakeholder engagement.  Her mission every day will be to ensure that our passengers are at the heart of everything we do and she will always support our team to make sure this happens.
