International Women’s Day 2018

Let’s Press for Progress, Melbourne!

#PressforProgress

Once again, Metro is getting behind International Women’s Day to recognise the great contribution of women in our community.

We are focused on enabling women to thrive in all areas of our business. Gender equality is an important part of our broader Diversity and Inclusion approach. Diversity and Inclusion aims to open up our business to employing and engaging with people from all parts of the community. This includes people from different ages, cultural backgrounds, locations and of course, genders.

We are proud that there are more women working at Metro than ever before. When we took over running network in November 2010, 14% of our workforce was female. That’s about 478 women. This has grown to about 23% or 820 more roles filled by women.

Metro is committed to building a workplace culture that truly embraces diversity and reflects the wonderfully diverse nature of our Melbourne passengers.

We are running the following activities to celebrate International Women’s Day:

  • Promoting International Women’s Day to passengers by displaying posters at premium stations, showing messages of support on digital screens in the city loop and making train announcements.
  • Holding a panel discussion featuring Dr. Collette Burke, the Victorian Government’s Chief Engineer and staff from across the business in a range of jobs to reflect on how we can Press for Progress at Metro
  • Running a range of activities to celebrate and showcase our female talent around the network.
