From Box Hill to Boronia: Pam’s 20-year career on the Belgrave Line

1 Oct 2026, Jordan Gilliland

If you are a frequent visitor to Boronia Station, you may have been greeted by the friendly face of Promilla (Pam). As a Station Officer at Boronia Station, Pam’s career on the Belgrave Line has spanned more than 20 years.

With a career previously as a teacher, Pam was working at a local school before taking the leap to the rail industry in 2005, when she became a Station Officer at Box Hill. From there, she transferred to Boronia Station in February 2009, where she has been ever since.

“I chose to become a station officer because I enjoy helping people. Assisting passengers and making their journey a positive experience is incredibly rewarding”, Pam said.

For Pam, her favourite part of the job is the people. She was delighted when trains returned to Boronia Station after an 88-day closure, during which time crews worked on upgrades to deliver a modern and accessible precinct for the community.

“It was wonderful to see my regular customers again, it was such a proud moment knowing that all the hard work that went into the project had paid off,” she said.

“The station looks really nice, the waiting room is warm and I can confidently help passengers from the new ticket office.”

Having watched the station and community change and evolve over time, the works done this year to upgrade Boronia Station has meant a lot to Pam and the passengers around her.

Like many public-facing roles, it was not without its challenges. Pam credits her Station Masters; Daniel, Zachary and Remya for their ongoing support.

“Having such a strong team has been a great help and has had a massive impact on my time at Metro. I’m grateful for the support and for the opportunity to contribute positively to the station and the community,” she said.

Passengers were welcomed back to Boronia Station on Tuesday 4 August and the Boronia Station Upgrade was completed at the at the end of September. You can catch Pam back at Boronia now, doing the work she loves in a recently revamped station.
