Metro Trains Rail Safety Poster Competition 2020

Entry to the 2020 Metro Trains Poster competition is now closed.

Metro Trains is inviting children from foundation to grade 6 from all schools across Melbourne to participate in a poster competition to promote Safe Travel on Metro Trains. There are three separate age categories with some fantastic prizes on offer. The competition is sure to keep the young ones occupied during this difficult time!

The competition opens Monday 20th April 2020 and closes midnight Sunday May 17th 2020.

Metro will review entries and select a top 10 in each grade. Children in the top 10 will be contacted by Friday 22nd May.
Top 10 entrants will need to submit a 20 second video explaining their poster by midday Friday 29th May.

Members of the public will vote online. This will go live Tuesday 2nd June. Voting closes midday Tuesday 9th June, winners will be contacted Thursday 11th June.

Poster Criteria

  • A4 in size (Landscape/longways)
  • Drawn using any of the following mediums – pencils, textas, water colour paint and crayons
  • Provide a clear rail safety message for travelling on Metro Trains
  • Have correct spelling
  • Include a hand illustrated Metro logo or Metro train
  • Contain original illustrations clearly demonstrating each of the following:
  • Safe behaviour
  • Essential workers (e.g. Nurses, Doctors, Police, Authorised Officers)
  • Good hygiene. (e.g. sanitising hands, coughing into arm, wearing masks, social distancing or gloves)
  • A competition entry form

To short list to the the top 10 in each age category, posters will be judged on:

  • How well the poster meets the poster criteria (above)
  • The potential for the poster to be reproduced to promote rail safety messages
  • General appearance – use of colour, creativity, visual impact and clarity of message
  • How well essential workers and good hygiene practices are represented

Suggested rail safety messages could include:

  • Mind the gap
  • Stay behind the yellow line
  • Remove headphones at level crossings
  • Level crossings – Lights? Bells? Gates? Wait!
  • Walk your wheels (bikes, scooters, skateboards & rollerblades)
  • Authorised Officers – Here to Help

Students may create their own safety message too
