Catherine Baxter and Sarah McCartney appointed to Metro executive team

New Metro CEO Raymond O’Flaherty on Tuesday announced the appointment of two leaders to his executive team.

Catherine Baxter will join Metro in October as Executive Director – People, with Sarah McCartney appointed as Executive Director – Corporate Affairs effective immediately.

“My commitment to Melbourne is to put our passengers at the heart of everything we do,” Mr O’Flaherty said.

“Catherine and Sarah are leaders in their fields who share this commitment. They are the right people to help us deliver on our promise to the millions of passengers that rely on us.”

Ms Baxter’s career in the industry has spanned leadership roles at Queensland Rail, UGL Rail and most recently Aurizon, where she is Vice President Operations.

“Catherine is a champion of fostering positive culture, diversity and inclusion to drive outcomes. Her experience in workforce planning, capability building and employee engagement will be an asset for our people at a time when the railway and our organisation are transforming,” Mr O’Flaherty said.

Ms McCartney, who has been acting in the role since January, brings best practice experience from Australia, Europe and the USA, leading communication and marketing teams in organisations including Disney and BP.

“Sarah has brought real strategic leadership to my reshaped executive team, which is taking a different approach to how we engage with our people and the passengers we serve,” said Mr O’Flaherty.
