TRAIN TRACK SAFETY AWARENESS (TTSA)

This course is the minimum requirement for employees who work within the rail corridor. Tickets have a life of 2 years, or the individual’s medical, whichever is the lesser.The session is a combination of theory and practical activities to prepare learners to access the rail corridor.

The Metro Safety & Environmental Induction is also included.

This course is aligned to the following nationally recognised unit of competency:

  • TLIF2080 Safely access the rail corridor

Learners who successfully complete all training and assessment requirements for this course will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the unit listed above.

Audience

Employees working within the rail corridor.

METRO CONTRACTOR SAFETY RECERTIFICATION COURSE (MCSR)

This course is for people who wish to renew their TTSA ticket for a further 2 year period.

Audience

Workers requiring TTSA renewal.

LOOKOUT

This course will provide information on how to fulfil the role of a Lookout.This course is aligned to the following nationally recognised unit of competency:

  • TLIF2081 Perform lookout duties

Learners who successfully complete all training and assessment requirements for this course will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the unit listed above.

Audience

This course must be undertaken by anyone perfroming the duties of a Lookout.

LOOKOUT RENEWAL

This course is for people who wish to renew their TTSA and Lookout tickets.Audience

HANDSIGNALLER

This course will provide information on how to fulfil the role of a Handsignaller. This course will also provide the necessary prerequisite knowledge for individuals wishing to progress further and become a Track Force Protection Coordinator.This course is aligned to the following nationally recognised unit of competency:

  • TLIF2082 Perform handsignaller duties

Learners who successfully complete all training and assessment requirements for this course will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the unit listed above.

Audience

This course must be undertaken by anyone perfroming the duties of a Handsignaller

TRACK FORCE PROTECTION COORDINATOR (TFPC)
LEVEL 3.1

This course will provide information on how to implement lookout protection; including how to conduct a rail safety worksite hazard assessment, plan, document and apply lookout protection .This course is aligned to the following nationally recognised units of competency:

  • TLIF3083 Conduct track protection assessment
  • TLIW2001 Operate under track protection rules

Learners who successfully complete all training and assessment requirements for this course will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the units listed above.

Audience

This course must be undertaken by a TFPC taking out lookout protection.

2 days plus in-field assessment

Prerequisites

TTSA, Lookout & Category 1 Medical

Participants must have current employment with an organisation that is authorised to interface with the Metro Trains rail network.

TRACK FORCE PROTECTION COORDINATOR (TFPC) RENEWAL
LEVEL 3.1

This course is for people who wish to renew their TFPC 3.1 ticket.Audience

Workers requiring TFPC 3.1 renewal (includes MCSR in course)

Prerequisites

Prior completion of TLIF2080 Safely access the rail corridor, TLIF2081 Perform lookout duties, TLIW2001 Operate under track protection rules, TLIF3083 Conduct track protection assessment and a Category 1 Medical

TRACK FORCE PROTECTION COORDINATOR (TFPC)
LEVEL 3.2

This course is the next progression from Level 3.1 and must be undertaken by a Track Force Protection Coordinator taking out Track Force Protection and Absolute Occupations.TFPC 3.2 will provide information on implementing all available options for worksite protection and allows the holder to:

  • Establish Track Force Protection
  • Receive a Non-Obstructive/Obstructive ‘Permit to Foul the Line’.
  • Use a Train for Protection
  • Receive a Track Warrant
  • Use Points for Protection
  • Manage an Absolute Occupation or area of Booked Out Track consisting of only One work group

This course is aligned to the following nationally recognised units of competency:

  • TLIW2037 Clip and secure points
  • TLIC2081 Pilot rail traffic within work on track authority limits
  • TLIL3065 Implement a track occupancy authority
  • TLIL3083 Implement a track work authority and manage rail traffic through worksites
  • TLIL3084 Implement a local posession authority

Learners who successfully complete all training and assessment requirements for this course will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the units listed above.

Audience

This course must be undertaken by a TFPC taking out Track Force Protection and Absolute Occupations.

LEVEL 3.2

This course is for people who require 3.2 ticket renewal.Audience

Workers requiring TFPC 3.2 renewal (includes Metro Contractor Safety Recertification in course).

Category 1 Medical.

Successfully completed and endorsed Rail Safety Worksite Hazard Assessments in accordance with MetroSafe Safety Bulletin.

TRACK FORCE PROTECTION COORDINATOR (TFPC)
LEVEL 3.3

This course is the next progression from Level 3.2 and will provide information on implementing all available options for worksite protection with multiple workgroups and allows the holder to:

  • Manage an Absolute Occupation
  • Manage the Booking Out of Track
  • Manage multiple work sites within an Absolute Occupation or Booked out Track

This course is aligned to the following nationally recognised unit of competency:

  • TLIL4069 Plan and coordinate protection for multiple worksites within limits of a work on track authority

Learners who successfully complete all training and assessment requirements for this course will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the units listed above.

Audience

This course must be undertaken by a TFPC taking out Track Force Protection and Absolute Occupations with multiple work groups.

1 day (plus in-field assessment)

TRACK VEHICLE OPERATOR 1 (TVO1)

This course will instruct the Track vehicle Operator in how to safely operate a track vehicle fitted with rail guidance wheels within a worksite under protection. The course will also provide theoperator with the knowledge in how to care for and maintain the track vehicle, implement the procedures required to remove a disabled vehicle from the running line, conduct a hazard analysis to determine the safe operation of the track vehicle, identify basic fixed signals and provide vehicle security. Additional specific vehicle operator’s courses may be required for specific vehicles.This course is aligned to the following nationally recognised unit of competency:

  • TLIC2054 Access rail track to run track vehicle within defined worksite
  • TLIC3045 Operate road/rail vehicle

Learners who successfully complete all training and assessment requirements for this course will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the units listed above.

Audience

This course must be undertaken by any individual required to operate a road/rail vehcile or track machine within a ‘restricted’ environment, i.e. within a worksite protected by a method of safeworking.
