New SmartBus direct to Melbourne Airport
Melburnians are set to have a new direct and frequent public transport link with Melbourne Airport with a new SmartBus route starting from Sunday 26 September. SmartBus Route 901 will drop people heading for the skies straight to Tullamarine airport, all for the price of a public transport ticket. And the first two weeks (Sunday 26 September to Saturday 9 October) are free.
The new Route 901 service is the first frequent public transport service to connect people with Melbourne Airport, travelling a 115km route from Frankston to Melbourne Airport, including a frequent connection from Broadmeadows station. The journey from Broadmeadows station to Tullamarine will take around 20 minutes (longer if travelling duirng peak times).
Route 901 will operate from 5am to midnight on weekdays, at a 15 minute frequency between 6.30am and 9pm. On Saturdays and most public holildays the service will run from 6am to midnight at a 30 minute frequency. On Sundays and some public holidays the service will run between 7am and 9pm.
Route 901 will run every 15 minutes between the hours of 6.30am and 9.00pm on weekdays, and on average will run every 30 minutes all other times.
Other public transport options for people travelling to and from Melbourne Airport:
- SkyBus runs direct between Southern Cross Station in the city and the airport;
- Airport Bus Eastside runs to and from the eastern suburbs;
- The Frankston and Peninsula Airport Shuttle runs from the outer south-eastern suburbs; and
- Bus routes 478 (Moonee Ponds - Melbourne Airport), 479 (Moonee Ponds - Sunbury via Melbourne Airport) and 500 can also get people to their flights, but are less frequent than the new SmartBus 901.
