Mont Albert

Where slowly appreciating some of life’s simple pleasures can take you back almost 100 years.

As the Belgrave and Lilydale lines wind away from the city, there’s a quiet cluster of shops that hasn’t changed much since 1912. Step off at Mont Albert station and it feels like you’ve stepped into a gentler time. At the Orient Espresso Café, the collection of vintage rail memorabilia hanging from the walls is best admired over a homemade slice of flourless orange cake and a pot of English Breakfast tea.

A short stroll away, there is enough bric-a-brac at the Kindilan op shop to keep you happily amused for hours. Or why not while away some time fossicking through the distinctive home-wares at Entice by Design? By that stage, you might be ready to tackle the pork belly at Churchill Café and Larder. It’s a place where good old-fashioned pleasures have never gone out of style and it’s right on the doorstep of Mont Albert Station.
