More than 1,500 reasons to take the train to the footy
24 March
More than 1,500 extra train services will carry more than 1.2 million people to and from the footy this year - that's enough people to fill the MCG 12 times.
Metro is gearing up for the footy season, adding extra trains for all major AFL matches being played in Melbourne this year, on top of its regular services.
Footy fans can sign up now to receive email updates on the extra footy trains running on their line, whenever their team plays in Melbourne.
Metro CEO Andrew Lezala said extra footy trains proved successful during this year's pre-season competition, and urged people to sign up now.
"Whether you're a Bulldogs supporter from Broadmeadows or a Saints supported from Sandringham, we'll get you to the game for the first bounce, and have you home in time for the replay," Mr Lezala said.
"Our extra footy trains, combined with personalised travel information via our new Platform 1 information portal will prove hard to beat this year.
"If you're not already signed up to receive our individualised email alerts, get onto it now before the season starts."
As well as providing emails alerts for the extra footy trains, Platform 1 can also send through real-time SMS train updates if there are unexpected disruptions to your service, and can also send through timetable information direct to your mobile phone.
Metro will add extra trains for all major AFL games played in Melbourne during the year, including the AFL finals series.
